CCSPA "Black Tail" Cat Promotion Kick-Off
The Cumberland County SPCA will be hosting a fun, informal wine and cheese hour to launch our adoption campaign for cats who are black or black and white. You are invited to stop in the shelter at 1244 N. Delsea Drive to enjoy the complimentary refreshments on Wednesday, February 24 from 6pm - 7pm and visit with our feline friends hoping to find their forever homes. The "Black Tail" adoption campaign will run from February 24th through March 24th. All cats who are black or black and white will be available for adoption at a reduced fee of $60. During this time period, cats who have been previously been combo tested, will be available for $80. A cat safety collar must be provided by you at the time of adoption, or you may purchase one from the shelter when you pick up your new pet.

Order Sons of Italy in America Scholarship
The Antonio Meucci Mainland Lodge #2613 of the Order Sons of Italy in American will be awarding the Eugene and Barbara Compton Scholarship in the amount of $2500 to a graduating high school senior of the Class of 2010 who is of Italian heritage and resides in Somers Point, Linwood, Northfield, Pleasantville, Absecon, EHT or Galloway Township.  It will be coompetitively based on essay, academics, financial need, community service, leadership, recognition/awards and scholastic activities.  The deadline for applications is March 21, 2010.  Students should apply through their schools guidance office or phone 609-646-0299 for more information.

Preventing Childhood Obesity Lecture
Shore Memorial Hospital will be hosting a medical lecture about preventing childhood obesity at 6pm at Shore Memorial's Conference Center on the corner of New York Avenue and Shore Road.  Dr. Magna Chang Dias, pediatrician and medical director of CHOP Newborn and Pediatric Care at Shore Memorial will discuss issues concering childhood obesity, including prevention and managment through exercise and proper nutrition.  Admission is free.  To register visit

Boating Safely Course
Brigantine Flotilla 85 of the
U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary conducts the About Boating Safely classes starting with the first class on at 8:30 A.M.  This class will be taught by qualified U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors and upon successful completion a NJ Boating Safety Certificate will be issued. Each class will run approximately 8 hours and a lunch will be provided.  Location for the class is 31st and Bayshore in Brigantine.  Class size is limited so please register early.  You may register by calling (609) 926-7607.  A $50 prepaid registration is required.  Additional classes will be held throughout the spring and summer.

3rd Annual City-Wide Clean Up Day
Egg Harbor City will host their 3rd Annual Citywide Clean Up Day from 8:30am to 10:30am rain or shine.  Residents, church groups, and businesses are asked to participate by cleaning up Lake Park, Key Rec, Rotary Park Ker n's Field, Lincoln Park, Peace Pilgrim Park, all creeks, Atlantic Ave, Philadelphia, and all North/South/East/West streets.  The ACUA Clean Communities will provide volunteers with trash and recycle bags, gloves and litter grabbers.  Every volunteer will receive a free ACUA t-shirt!  Enjoy a BBQ at City Lake Park at 11am provided by the ACUA and the EHC Volunteer Ambulance Squad.  For more information call 609-965-0081 or email

Barnegat Bay Buddy Program


The Barnegat Bay Buddy Program is a simple and easy stewardship program in which citizens can earn points by taking actions that will reduce the pollution entering the Bay.  In addition, the Barnegat Bay Buddy Challenge helps individuals become better Bay stewards, and will incorporate them into a larger movement for collective citizen action to help Barnegat Bay.  Clean Ocean Action (COA), Save Barnegat Bay (SBB), Ocean County Freeholders, and Beachwood Township are partners in this program.   To participate in the program you must first obtain a copy of the Bay Buddy brochure. Tell Them Thanks


Tell Them Thanks is non-profit group whose mission is to support our military heroes who are deployed abroad. They want every soldier, Marine, airman, sailor and Guardsman to hear their names called at Mail Call. Their dedicated members "adopt" one or more service members and then support them for the length of their deployment. Members are required to send at least one letter a month, but many of them write more often and send care packages as well.

Gilda's Club South Jersey


Gilda’s Club South Jerseyis moving from their current Linwood clubhouse location to 555 Bay Avenue in Somers Point. Their phone number will stay the same: 609-926-2699. Financial support and donation of gift cards from home centers and supermarkets are needed to help ease the move. Also needed: clean moving boxes, a moving company, bottled water & canned soft drinks, individually packaged snacks, Clorox wipes, pump hand soap & sanitizer, and first aid kits.

Comedian Gilda Radner, who died in 1989 of cancer, believed that all people with cancer and their families and friends should have free access to social and emotional support. Gilda’s Club South Jersey offers support groups, lectures, workshops and social events as a supplement to medical care in a warm and welcoming home-like setting at no charge.
